President Trump did not care about facts when he said the Central Park Five should be executed | Miami Herald

22 August[ —]
As president, Donald Trump wanted “facts” before denouncing the racists in Charlottesville. But when I was falsely accused of sexual assault, Trump had no qualms about jumping to conclusions.

Medium will now pay writers based on how many claps they get - The Verge

22 August[ —]
theverge.com - Jacob Kastrenakes
Medium plans to start letting more and more authors publish paywalled articles. And to determine how they get paid, the blogging platform has selected a fairly unorthodox method: claps, which are, basically, Medium’s equivalent of a Like. A couple weeks ago, Medium replaced its “recommend” feature — a little heart button at the end of each article — with a “clap” button that you can click as many times as you want (much like how Periscope lets you send broadcasters an infinite number of hearts).  show all text

The HuffPost's tabloid-style homepage is paying dividends - Digiday

22 August[ —]
digiday.com - Max Willens
This spring, HuffPost’s new editor-in-chief, Lydia Polgreen, announced that she wanted the Oath-owned title to become a grand tabloid for the underserved. It appears to be resonating with HuffPost’s core audience. Since the site overhauled its homepage four months ago, the number of people going directly to the site’s homepage is up 23 percent, year over year. The site’s traffic is still down from its 2016 election peak, and the HuffPost product and editorial teams are still experimenting with .  show all text

Orange is the new green: How orange peels revived a Costa Rican forest | EurekAlert! Science News

22 August[ —]
In the mid-1990s, 1,000 truckloads of orange peels and orange pulp were purposefully unloaded onto a barren pasture in a Costa Rican national park. Today, that area is covered in lush, vine-laden forest.
